Day 4: Favorite Book of Your Favorite Series
Easy Peasy! Once we decided the Vorkosigan Saga was my favorite series, my favorite book in that series is without a doubt Memory. This is the book in which Miles' forward momentum runs headlong into a brick wall of his own making. Imagine James Bond fucking up so bad he gets fired from being 007. Now what is he going to do? Yeah, that's right, Fleming never wrote that book because it'd be almost impossible to pull off in a way that didn't alienate Bond fans everywhere. But Bujold pulls it off, and how. This is where she lives up to her own quote: “The rule for finding plots for character-centered novels, is to ask: 'So what's the worst possible thing I can do to this guy?' And then do it.” Losing Admiral Naismith is really the worst thing she could do to Miles...
Admiral Naismith is dead, long live Lord Vorkosigan.
