My 30-Day October Challenge: Day 21

Reblogged from Les Aventures De Léna Léna :
Sybil - Flora Rheta Schreiber

Day 20: First novel you remember reading.

Not exactly sure what qualifies as a first novel. Are we talking Enid Blyton or 'grown up' stuff?

I'm going to go with first grown up book that I remember because I was clearly too fucking young for it. When I was a kid, our library would let us check out 4 books at a time. In summer, bless their hearts (but not really, because come on) they would let you have six. We would then get in a car and drive for two days to go camping in southern France for 4 weeks. Half my books were done by the end of those two days, all of them by the end of week 1, one-and-a-half if I had selected big enough books. Yes, I learned to select my books on size, hence my young found affinity for Fantasy door stops. I will never understand why my parents did not just buy me a few thousand more pages for these occasions. Maybe they hoped I would actually talk to them or something or go do something active. Anyway, after I had finished all my books, I'd read my brother's books (Land ho, Kameleon!) and then, in the throes of book withdrawal I'd read my parents' even though their books sucked. Besides a bunch of Grijpstra and De Gier mysteries, I vividly remember reading 'Sybil' when I was 11 or so. I must have gotten to it before my parents actually read it. I would like to think they would have yanked it out of my desperate hands otherwise. Cause let me tell you, I am still scarred.
