Day 8: Most Overrated Book
This is a tricky one. I feel like I am supposed to come up with some kind of classic that I have found lacking in some way. After all MOST overrated book suggests something widely known and admired. The problem with classics is that I am usually quick to take the blame myself for not liking them. I found The Great Gatsby boring, but you know, it's probably different if you lived through the interbellum. Melville, Joyce, Steinbeck: obviously not my time either. Naked Lunch? I don't think I was on the right drugs, like Burroughs obviously was, or maybe I was holding the book upside down. Also: me not of the Beat Generation. A Confederacy of Dunces is my husband's favorite not-baseball-related book, God love him. I love him too, but we'd have issues if he'd demand I finish that thing. A Secret History by Donna Tartt got rave reviews even from my reluctant-reader friends. I couldn't even get through the blurb. Gaiman? Total guy's guy. I'm not a guy.
So I picked a book that is probably not the MOST overrated book EVER, but a) I finished it (as opposed to all the previous ones I mentioned) and b) it makes me yell 'WTF is wrong with you?!?' every time I see someone rate it 4 stars or more. See my review for reasons why.
